WHAT THE HELL IS GOP's PROBLEM, THAT RASCALLY DOUBLE-DIPPING-POSTER ... oh wait, who cares? Bill is and always has been cool in my book, under whatever name he chooses to post, an intelligent and interesting contributer to this forum; and no, i have not been brain-washed, i know what i know, and i operate on several levels at once, thank you very much; anyway ...

... been listening to the Robert Hunter show from 10/14/78, and was rather struck with this excellent version of "Independence Day", very Lou Reed-ish, and crisp/clean sound quality; i at least was pleasantly surprised

and "Promontory Rider" from same show (fantastic!):

Thanks for the DL, Arb. A rollicking Independence Day. Not the usual lyrics...was he improvising?... I liked the dylan / lou reed inflections...and yes please on the offer of the seed...I'm a leech for ya baby :¬)

p.s. Agree about Bill...one of the forum's best assets...just a pity he's so allergic to the excrescence. I actually feel I owe him for all he's contributed ...the forum's a little poorer without his honesty...I feel bad that I didn't step up to support him earlier. "It would be nice if we could use our One Mind to devise a solution to the current problem of hostility and negativity and entice all the good guys back", he thought wishfully. Or is that too un-Grateful Dead?

Jerrob ... thanks, it's a good show, i think you'll enjoy it; and i do believe Hunter was improvising with the lyrics; enjoy!

Promontory Rapper?
Oh God Ashes, I'm no good at metaphysical questions. Can I phone a friend? or ask the audience?

No cheating allowed. Hint: Robert Burns [not Robert Zimmerman!]

Greetings Ashes - So Burns became Hunter. Do you know if he changed simply because there was already a poet of that name - or for some other reason?

Thomas Jefferson singing Not Fade Away?!? I wonder how that would sound?

Thanks for providing this.
